behind Koyra.

A name rooted in heritage. A practice grounded in understanding.

Some names carry a story. Koyra carries a connection to community, language, and knowledge passed between generations.

The name Koyra is rooted in the Songhay heritage in Mali—family, history, and the Koyraboro Senni language. It also honors the tradition of griots—storytellers and keepers of cultural knowledge who preserve memory, context, and meaning across generations.

That connection shapes how Koyra Advisors approaches its work. Good advice begins with listening carefully, understanding the full context, and respecting the knowledge people and organizations already hold. Evidence matters most when it helps make sense of a story—and supports thoughtful action.

For Koyra, the name is both a connection to heritage and a reflection of how we work: with curiosity, clarity, and purpose.

Managing Principal | 15+ years across international development, public-sector programs, performance measurement, and strategy.

Koyra Advisors is led by Modibo Diabate, an international development and performance management professional with experience leading monitoring and evaluation across multinational programs spanning 28 countries. His professional background includes roles with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the American Soybean Association's World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (ASA/WISHH).

He brings experience in program leadership, evaluation management, donor reporting, research oversight, and institutional performance improvement. He holds an MBA in International Trade and an MPP in Economic Development from Georgia State University. He is also a proud alum of Morehouse College.
